Obituary for Kazuko Bradley

Kazuko Bradley, 77, of Anchorage, passed away December 22 at Providence Hospital with family at her bedside.

Kazuko Nakada was born in Sesoko, Okinawa, Japan, May 11, 1941. There she met and married Hugh J. Bradley. Shortly after they moved to McGrath, Alaska and in 1962 moved to South Anchorage on the property where the Bradley House now exists. In the mid-60s they opened a bar on the first floor of their home and she would prepare food for customers from her home kitchen upstairs. Soon more people came for the food and eventually expanded into what would be the Oriental Gardens. The restaurant burned in May of 1996 and she retired spending her winters in Phoenix, AZ.

She was devoted to the Society of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, a past member of the Knights & Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre, Our Legion of Mary and volunteer at Our Lady of Compassion.

She also loved golfing, going to garage sales and reading religious books.
Her family states, “She lived her life helping others very generously through her cooking and financially. Per her wishes she received pre-Vatican II Latin Last Rites from Fr. Wegner. We believe this enabled her to pass away peacefully.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter (Theresa Nyholm), three sisters (Kikue, Etsuko and Sumi), one brother (Eiichi). She is survived by her two daughters Mary Ann (Jerry Cosgrave) and Bernadette, grandchildren Hugh, Kevin, Sarah, John Cosgrave and Thaddeus Nyholm, brothers Yurio, Tokuichi (Susan Nakada), sisters Hatsuko, Yoshi.

For her Catholic friends and family, a Traditonal Latin Requiem Mass will be said December 28th at 10am, at St. Therese Patron of Alaska Chapel located at Bells Nursery, 7653 Cranberry in Anchorage. Before Mass a viewing will be at 9:00am and rosary at 9:30am.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bradley House, 11321 Old Seward Hwy., Sunday, December 30th from 1pm – 4pm.

In lieu of flowers or charitable contributions she wishes rosaries said for the poor souls in purgatory and for the consecration of Russia.
