Obituary for David John Spear

Longtime Alaskan and Soldotna resident, Mr. David John Spear, 92, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna with his family by his side.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory – 5839 Kenai Spur Hwy in Kenai. Chaplain Frank Alioto will be officiating. A potluck will follow the services at the Funeral Home.

David was born Aug. 19, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. He was in the 456th Ordinance Evac in the U.S. Army in WWII. He served as a truck driver in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Region during WWII. He lived in Washington and Oregon prior to 1963. In 1963 he moved to Alaska living in Fairbanks, Anderson, Anchorage, Palmer Clam Gulch, Kenai and finally Soldotna. David worked for the Yellow Cab as a mechanic in Fairbanks and various other jobs around the state. In 1987 he retired a mechanic from Clear Airforce Base. David loved hunting and fishing.
The family wrote, “CHEERS” “Happy Days and Beautiful Nights.”

He was preceded in death by his sons, Dave Spear, John Spear, Douglas Spear, and Darryl Essman.

He is survived by his wife, Paveenut Spear of Soldotna, AK; Sister Ann Olli of Shelton, WA;
Sons, Jim Spear, Alan Spear, Arnold Spear& Donnon Spear; Step sons, Chokchi Apaipak & Chatchay Sodar Apaipak; daughters, Jean Smith, Cindy Morgan, Cathy Anderson, Ellen Smith & Hazel Streiff; step-daughter, Phatcharin Apaipak and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
