Obituary for Winifred Lorraine Croft

Winifred “Lorraine” Croft left this earth on Dec. 17, 2017 to move to her new home in Heaven.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Grace Lutheran Church, 47585 Ciechanski Rd., Kenai. Pastor Rob Guenther will officiate. Her ashes will be buried with her husband in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
Lorraine was born May 19, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Howard O. and Edith A. Nelson. She met George Croft in 1938 and they were married on June 20, 1941. The following year, their first son, Larry, was born and a year later, they had another son, David.
Lorraine traveled across the country with her two young sons while George received his military flight training. George was deployed over seas during World War II and they were reunited on June 20, 1945, the day of their 4th anniversary.
Lorraine and George then had two more children, Louise and Steve. They resided in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Later in life, they bought 240 acres of remote wilderness property in Northern Minnesota, where they built a beautiful log cabin and made many memories with family and friends.
They also made many trips to Alaska and California to visit family. After her husband George passed away in 2000, Lorraine moved to Kenai to be close to family.
Lorraine touched the lives of many people and was loved by all that knew her. The family would like to gratefully thank the staff at Heritage Place for the kind and loving care she has received over the past four years.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and also volunteered at Grace Lutheran School. She loved helping the children with their reading. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting and loved spending time with family and friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, George N. Croft, daughter-in-law, Diane Croft, son-in-law, Ellis Miller.
She is survived by her sons, Lawrence N. Croft of Kenai, David J. Croft of San Diego, Calif. and Stephen W. Croft and wife, Gale, of Nikiski; daughter, Louise J. Miller of Pasadena, Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses, Tracy Poppie of Phoenix, Ariz., Lawrence S. Rather than flowers, the family prefers memorial donations be sent to Grace Lutheran School, 47585 Ciechanski Rd., Kenai, AK 99611
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
