Obituary for Rustin D. "Rus" Hitchcock

Longtime Nikiski resident Rustin Donald “Rus” Hitchcock, 54, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 at Heritage Place in Soldotna.
A celebration of his life will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Nikiski High School Auditorium. His cremated remains will be scattered near Cordova at a later date.
Rus was born Jan. 23, 1963 in Park Rapids, Minn. He moved to Alaska in May 1983 and lived in Nikiski. He began commercial fishing in 1983 and also began working for Tesoro in 1989.
He thoroughly loved commercial fishing, basketball, coaching and making ‘omelettos.’
His family wrote, “His joie de vivre was unparalleled by anyone. The amount of gusto that he approached fishing, coaching, improving the community and loving his family was insurmountable and admirable. He will be sorely missed.”
Rus was preceded in death by his father, Donald Jack Hitchcock.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly Hitchcock of Nikiski; son and daughter-in-law, Rustin D. and Becca Hitchcock II of Soldotna; daughters and son-in-law, Whitney Hitchcock and Tyrone Landford of Soldotna, and Elaina Hitchcock of Nikiski; granddaughter, Tatum O’Brien of Nikiski; his mother, Etta-Mae Hitchcock of Vancouver, Wash.; brothers and sister-in-law, Dale Hitchcock of Woodburn, Ore., Tim and Sue Hitchcock of Vancouver, Wash., and Brice Hitchcock of Sandy, Ore.; cousins, Tom Lindow of Anchorage, Tony Lindow of Soldotna, Jeff Lindow of Anchorage, Eric Lindow of Soldotna, John Lindow of Anchorage, and Billy Lindow of Cordova; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rather than flowers, the family prefers memorial donation to The Boys and Girls Club, 705 Frontage Rd., Ste. B, Kenai, AK 99611.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
