Obituary for Kenneth Donald Kastner

Ken was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 12, 1952 and went to be with our loving Lord on June 13, 2020, in Anchorage, AK.

Ken made his way from Oklahoma to Alaska in the early 80’s with stops in Montana and Washington. He worked servicing medical equipment for Eastman/Kodak, which brought him to the great state of Alaska.

Ken loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and angler and served several years as an Assistant Big Game Guide. To get around the state he followed his passion for flying; his solo flight was in June 1990, he was a certified aircraft mechanic in 2008 and received his commercial license in 2011.

For more than a decade Ken was a pilot in the Iditarod Air Force, a group of quiet heroes that volunteered their time and skills as pilots, keeping the Last Great Race moving toward the finish line each year.

After he retired from Kodak, with his aircraft mechanic skill, he found himself working as a mechanic on 747 jets at Anchorage International Airport. However, the planes he loved the most were what he called his “perfect combination of a Cessna 185 and a Super Cub”.

In June of 2005, Ken comes upon the woman who would become the love of his life, Lorraine. Six months after them met, they were engaged and married September 9, 2006. Their life together was full of love and adventure. Some of the fun and exciting adventures included sailing on the Mediterranean Sea from the coast Spain to Italy; riding snow machines at Big Lake and Lake Louise with friends and family; renting houseboats with those same friends and boating on Lake Powell and Lake Shasta; touring Australia and fishing for marlin off the Great Barrier Reef.

Ken dreamed big, lived life fully; he was a good father to his kids, dearly loved his wife Lorraine, and devoted himself to his faith in God. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, his son Kevin Kastner (Job Sonnentag) his daughter Cherice Kastner, step-son Corey Schultz (Jenny Bean) grandsons Kyle Brown (Samantha Brown) and Tyson Otto.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Anchorage Funeral Home, 1800 Dare Avenue, Anchorage, AK. The services will also be steamed live on Baxter Road Bible Church’s Facebook page. Burial will occur the following week at the cemetery in Healy, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Anchorage, 2612 E. Northern Lights Blvd., Anchorage, Alaska 99508.
