Obituary for Dale James Snell

Dale James Snell passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

Dale was born to Kelsey and Martha (Tyone) Snell on Thursday, August 5, 1954 in Glennallen, Alaska.

Dale was an avid grant writer and often travelled to various states for training. He worked for the Ahtna oil spill crew and also with Ahtna on archeological issues in the Gulkana area. He sat on the Gulkana Village Council off and on for many year and was the first driver for Gulkana Village Soaring Eagle Transport in 2008. He was currently working for the Copper River Native Association as a patient transport driver after working as a supervisor and coordinator in the beginning.

He loved listening to the radio; 60’s and 70’s music as well as KCAM’s various Christian programs. Dale often read the Bible and referred back to its teachings as a true believer. He enjoyed playing cards and loved to drive his car around. He loved to help people and could always be counted on for the good advice at the right time. Most of all he loved his family. He was proud of their accomplishments and was a fan of everything they did.

Dale will be greatly missed by his family and many friends near and far.

Dale was preceded in death by his loving parents, Martha and Kelsey; Grandparents, Paul and End Snell, James and Annie Tyone and Bacille and Nikoli Ewan; brothers, Darrell Snell and Robert Snell; sister, Colleen Snell Wilson; aunts, Pauline George and Frieda Sanford; uncles, Nick Tyone, Andy Tyone, Peter Tyone and Harry Ewan and cousin, Margaret George.

He is survived by his son, Tony Dale Jackson; brother, Lonnie Tyone; grandpa; Fred J. Ewan; aunts, Jeanie Maxim and Gronia “Glenda” Ewan; uncle Norman Ewan; grandsons, Terrel and Adam Jackson; granddaughters, Jayna Jackson, Tiffany Lincoln, Naomi Jackson and Ruth McComkey; cousins, Darryl Tyone, Jay Tyone, Wayne Tyone, Brenda Tyone, Vivian Tyone, Valda Tyone, Vanessa Tyone, Clinton Maxim, James Maxim, Ann Maxim, Amanda Maxim, Kelsey George, Amy George, Marcia Ewan, Racel Ewan, Crystal Ewan, Budzy Ewan, Na’ean David Ewan, Amber Alexander and Kathryn Martin; nephews, Darrell Stickwan and Justin Jackson; neice, Sherrie I. Wilson and grandnephews and nieces, Franklin Geffe, Avery Carew, Ryan Goodlataw, Alena Goodlataw and Autumn Martin.

Arnold Lincoln will drive Dale home and the funeral service will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 in Gakana with Todd Roeske officiating burial will follow.
